farmNew Delhi, Friday, November 20 – In the fast running life of ours, it is just getting impossible for us to pick best ingredients for cooking and serving a delicious food at the end of the day to family and friends. The concept of going to a garden and select desired kitchen staples is ending in the metro cities.

People feel more comfortable in going to retail and wholesale vegetable and fruit markets. Buyers pick whatever stuffs look okay to them despite the fact that these might not be too good in quality wise.

Gone are the days it seems when parents would go to the vegetable venders with kids and teach them how to make sure vegetables are fresh and will taste good when cooked.  In order to check softness of lady finger, homemakers would ask children to break off its tail. If it gets removed quickly, okra is perfect for cooking. However, in case, if some portion stuck, it isn’t ideal for having.

There are more than a few ways to test out quality of onions, potato and cauliflower. The first two must be firm and last one must have a crackling sound when wedges are taken out prior to cooking. Fenugreek leaves are best to eat in winter season.  It is useful to lower atherosclerosis and treat bowel problems & diabetes. The leafy green tastes slightly sweet if taken out directly from the garden and has great usefulness like providing luster to hair and reducing blemishes on skin. If the vegetable tastes slightly bitter then it means it’s two or three days old.

The food that tastes lip-smackingly good is something one would wish to die for. But if we question ourselves that are we gorging on healthy eatables or pick anything from store or market that doesn’t seem to burn a hole in our pockets then the answer given latter on will appear a bit right.

It is not actually a complete fault of buyers. Most of the vegetable venders even don’t allow them choose desired product. They weigh the veggies themselves and pack it, giving consumers not any choice to make a selection. As per latest report over maintaining a good health, those who get to eat fresh and organic food more are fit and energetic as compared to those who eat anything just to fill their hungry stomachs, compromising with the quality and flavor.

The trick to judge superiority of pulpy fruits and a whole array of vegetables is to smell the hint of mild sweetness. Instead of adding too many spices into sautéed vegetables, focus must be on enhancing flavor with some amount of salt, chilies, garlic and dash of lime, if required. For healthy lifestyle, it is just better to say a big no to fried food as this increases chance of cancer. Obesity could be a different issue faced by the eaters who can’t focus on consuming nutritious food. Boiled veggies are perfect to gobble when strive for food.

Traditional cooking can be given a new definition by picking the right ingredients that is not too typical. This just needs a bit of awareness. Right ingredients in their right form can do the sheer magic. Our elders miss the tang they tasted years and years ago for the reason that everything was served fresh. Hardly had they preferred having preserved food, except pickles, which need a few weeks to mature in flavor and look rich in color. No matter how busy people get in office or domestic chores, they must pay heed to the eatables they consume on a daily basis.

Face is reflection of everyone’s personality. If diet of a person is full of nutrition, his/her face will be shinier without any makeup. While on the other hand, junk and spicy food makes it look dull as body requires much time to digest these. To cut a long story short, the kind of foodstuffs populace prefer having regularly shouldn’t be cooked for long as the cooking process may take away all its nourishment. To let diseases be at bay, it is important to have an eye on all sorts of items that are eaten in a raw or cooked form.
